Doctors and nurses are not paid to deny care. Many MCOs pay doctors and nurses if they deny care to patients. Ohio Employee Health Partnership believes that sets up a conflict of interest that doesn't benefit anyone except the MCO. We oppose incentives of this sort and do not use them.

Doctors decide appropriate care. Many MCOs manage care by having a case manger who has never seen the patient over-ride decisions made by the better-trained, more experienced physician who is seeing the patient. Ohio Employee Health Partnership believes none of us want this sort of decision used for our families or ourselves. As a result, Ohio Employee Health Partnership will only deny care if the patient has been issued a second opinion by a qualified physician..
